Are you interested in learning about raising your own animals for your consumption or for sale? Do you wonder what raising livestock is all about? In this program we will review livestock selection and marketing for cattle, chickens, pigs and rabbit. Some of what we will be discussing includes: What is the difference between heritage and conventional breeds? Where do you get feed or can you pasture animals? What is the feed to weight ratio for different animals? Do you wonder about conventional versus organic meat production standards? Meat processing: how much does it cost and where can you get it done? Where can you get these animals? Even if you are just interested in finding out more about meat production, you are welcome to join in on the conversation. All experience levels welcome! Several local presenters will be adding their expertise to the program. Please park in the grassy area on the left by the second drive at the entrance to the farm. This program will be in the Phelps Schoolhouse at Spence Farm. Contact Carolynne for more details at: 815-992-3296.
