Scale Up Production With A Tractor

Learning to drive a tractor is as much art as it is science and thankfully the attendees of our Driving and Maintaining Your Tractor field day had a very detailed explanation of how to both maintain a tractor and how to put it to work. The Alis G and Alis D15 in addition to the mower were discussed. It was easy to talk about troubleshooting problems with the Alis G, since it was in parts awaiting a few more components before it could be fixed.

Folks learned to do an oil change and general trouble shooting, along with PTO safety. The Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft connects between the tractor and implements such as a mower or baler and provides the power to run those devices. It can be really dangerous to use a PTO, so safety is very important. Participants were able to drive the tractor and mow some of the area were there are a lot of thistles since Marty, Kris, and Will Travis of the Spence Farm are trying to suppress these weeds with this strategic mowing.

We often see the zero turn mower in use at the farm for many tasks, even though it doesn’t have a PTO, it can be used to haul loads, move small equipment to the fields, and of course for mowing! Thank you to our presenters and to the participants.
