Crop Mob: Harvest
Spence Farm Foundation, Midwest Food Bank and our local food pantries are teaming up together to bring fresh, locally grown potatoes to needy families in our region. Our project includes: tilling, planting, cultivation/weeding and a fall harvest. Will you help us plant and harvest these potatoes? Bring out your family or troop and we’ll “Crop Mob” it and plant and harvest until we are done.
Prairie Central Junior High students have been working in the garden to get those potatoes out of the ground and into the hands of people who need them! Thank you Prairie Central Junior High Students! Some of the potatoes were even enjoyed by those students from the community-based special needs class. Teacher Pam Woods, para-profesional Erin Ummel, and Spence Farm Foundation director Carolynne Saffer helped the students from that class cook up some amazing beef stew and a vegetarian cream soup using some of the potatoes from the garden. The kids loved the stew and soup and some of the boys and girls had 4 bowls (hungry kids!!).
