About Art Smith

Art Smith is a critically acclaimed celebrity chef and co-owner of the highly successful restaurants Art and Soul in Washington D.C., Southern Art and Bourbon Bar in Atlanta, 1500 South at the Naples Bay Resort and opening this summer: Homecoming: Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and Blue Door Kitchen & Garden in Chicago’s Gold Coast.

Smith, who was named Humanitarian of the Year in 2007 by the James Beard Foundation, has received the culinary profession’s highest awards and has cooked for some of the world’s most famous celebrities and most powerful dignitaries including Morgan Freeman, Demi Lovato, First Lady Michelle Obama, Former President W. George Bush and His Royal Highness Prince Harry. In 1997, Smith became the personal, day-to-day chef to Oprah Winfrey, a position that lasted more than a decade. Since then, he has authored three award-winning cookbooks: Back to the Table, Kitchen Life: Real Food for Real Families and Back to Family. Most recently, he has made several television appearances including ABC’s Lady Gaga Thanksgiving Special, Top Chef and served as a judge for BBQ Pitmasters.

Smith is also the founder of Common Threads, a non-profit organization teaching low-income children about the importance of wholesome and affordable meals through the introduction to fresh foods and hands-on cooking classes. In 2015, Smith launched a non-profit organization, Reunion, as well as Florida Garden and Kitchen School located in Madison, Florida, near his childhood home in Jasper, Florida. Housed in the historic Wardlaw-Smith House, Reunion provides free classes on southern cooking traditions, horticulture, and weather forecasting via Weather Stem systems.
