The 2011 Harvest Feast on September 25th was an amazing evening. Guests and volunteers celebrated our autumn bounty at the historic Spence Farm. The support shown for sustainable small family farms was remarkable. We were able to raise a total of over $66,000 for the foundation to bring programs to our community. Compared to last year, we raised an additional $25,000.
Thank you to all the chefs, businesses and individuals who donated for the auctions. These items made it possible to raise these additional funds for our upcoming 2011 and 2012 programs, including the programs featured in this newsletter.
Everyone enjoyed delicious food prepared by acclaimed Illinois Chefs Doug D’Avico (Bistro One West), Chris Pandel (The Bristol), Stephanie Izard (Girl and the Goat), Bruce Sherman (North Pond), Manny Martinez (Destihl), Jared Van Camp (Old Town Social), Paul Virant and Nathan Sears (Vie and Perennial Virant), Thad Morrow (Bacaro and Carmon’s) and Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Topolobampo and Xoco).
Some of the savory dishes included: Turkey Scrapple with Smothered Turkey Sausage Gravy, Green Oaxacan Corn Grits and Late Summer Pickle Salad, Stuffed Roasted Hog with Gumbo and Butternut Squash Profiteroles with Bacon and Maple Syrup. Hats off to all the chefs for their amazing culinary magic. We all enjoyed their creative use of sustainably raised foods. We appreciate all the guests who attended and the volunteers who helped make the event so successful this year. Thank you.
